Your Voice Made the Difference!
Today is a victory for our children and public education in the state of Florida.
Today one of our elected officials did the right thing.
He listened.
Governor Charlie Crist chose to listen to hundreds of thousands of us who asked him to Veto Senate Bill 6.
Today, he did just that.
All of us, Republicans, Democrats and Independents can take credit for this Veto.
Governor Crist used the power of his office to stop this flawed bill.
Please contact him and let him know that we appreciate the respect he has given us.
Remember this moment and know that you and your voice made a difference.
A lot will be asked of us as we move forward.
Our work is not done.
Two weeks are left in the legislative session and a nasty budget fight looms ahead.
Property values are down at by at least 10 -12% across the state.
Districts are announcing cuts to the arts, sports and electives.
We face a $3.2 Billion shortfall. Yet, lawmakers spent much of this session stuffing legislation with corporate tax breaks that rob money from Florida's general revenue fund.
Next Tuesday, April 20th is the last scheduled day of regular meetings. April 30th is the last day of session.
We can't let up now.
You are playing a vital role in the fight to put public education back on track.
It's time that we demand a place at the table.
Our money, our property taxes pay for the bills of this state.
It's time for our legislators to make that connection.
The state budget is our business.
We must stand firm. Cuts to Public Education are unacceptable.
We need to Fund Education Now.
No distractions.
No excuses.
