Happy New Year, 2010! Now that we've all had a well-needed break, it's time to return to the business at hand... making public education a priority in this state. Our legislators are attending committee week in Tallahassee now and will be back in their districts next week, where they'll stay until the next session begins on March 2nd.

This is an excellent time to make appointments to visit your legislators and tell them how you feel about what's happening to education in the state of Florida. Go to our Take Action tab and look at our Legislative Tool Kit. We've provided a basic myths vs. facts tip sheet that's easy to use.

It's not too early to start writing and calling to express your concerns about the year ahead. The fact is that our lawmakers have no plan beyond the continued dependence on Federal money to provide the most basic education services. Instead of using this money for innovation, we are forced to use it for the most basic education tools. These are things that should have been in place long ago.

A lot is happening, so stay in touch and click on our Twitter feed on the home page. This is your own private clipping service! It will give you up-to-date news at a glance and help you be better informed as an advocate.

Get ready. This is going to be an uphill fight. As advocates, you know what's at stake. After last year, you are wiser and better prepared. Our kids need us. Let's give Florida a civics lesson it will never forget.
